Fly Drive North West France with a Hire Car
Fly Drive is all the craze, not only can you go on holiday, but you don’t have to stay in one city! You can visit multiple cities on a long weekend away or even take a week holiday and explore a new city each day. This is a great holiday to have if you want to see something different everyday. We are going to have a look at some places you can visit if you choose to fly drive in the North West of France.
Le Havre: We land at Octeville Airport and pick up our hire car before we set off on our travels. Le Harve is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and means The Harbour. There are many beautiful sights to see such as Le Havre Cathedral where the first stone was laid in 1536, or the Church of St Joseph which has one of the tallest bell towers in France. You can also enjoy some relaxation time in the Japanese Garden or enjoy watching people go by in St. Roch Square.
Caen: (94.5kms/58.7miles) Just over an hour away is the town of Caen, mostly known for it’s stunning old buildings which were built in the reign of William the Conqueror. While you admiring the town, why not stop off at the Castle of Caen, one of the largest fortresses in Western Europe, which was built in 1060 by William the Conqueror and today is the Museum of Fine Arts and Normandy. Also visit the two Abbeys St. Etienne and Ste. Trinite, dedicated to St Stephen and Holy Trinity. Also be sure to enjoy some time at Parc Festyland, an amusement park which will be great day out!
Guilberville: (53.1kms/33miles) Forty minutes away is the small commune of Guilberville which is a good place to take a rest before you head to your next destination, here you can take some time to enjoy the small village and visit the Church of Saint Mathurin and also have a bite to eat at the local restaurant.
Avranches: (52.1kms/32.4miles) Just half an hour away is the town of Avranches which was damaged in the 100 Year War and Wars of Religion. Visit the 18th century botanical gardens which overlook the bay, and visit its Museum and admire a collection of medieval manuscripts of Mont Saint Michael.
Rennes: (85.2kms/53miles) An hour away is our final destination, Rennes, a beautiful city of art and history. Visit the most famous building, the 17th century parliament of Brittany within the historical centre. Within Rennes there are many beautiful timber frame houses, a perfect example of this is on du Chapitre Street, as well as fort remains of the 3rd century and the third largest market in France.
Drop your car hire off at Rennes St Jacques Airport, only 7.2kms/4.5miles from the city centre and enjoy your flight home! Auto Europe offer great car hire France rates to help your holiday go smoothly.
